Quite a weekend!

The first ever Affordable Vintage Furniture Flea was a great success.  I couldn't believe how many people came through the door!  It seems we're all keen to 'vintage' our homes now and not just ourselves.  It's a great place to find some amazing items, I just wish I'd had a chance to look around myself!

Here are some pics of my stall.  The flea was also mentioned in 'Home & Antiques'  (my fav magazine - yay!)

We'll be back soon, I'll keep you posted...

The Vintage Furniture Flea this Sunday

Well this is very exciting!  I'm turning my hand to retro homeware this Sunday.  I have a real love for furniture and homeware from the 50s through to the 70s so am very excited.

This Sunday's fair in London's Bethnal Green is going to be fab.  Up till now unless you seek out the individial retailers or trawl stuffy antique fairs it's unlikely you'll have found so many affordable genuine retro & vintage goodies for your home in one place.

There will be around 40 individual traders selling everything from vintage fabric, retro clocks, telephones and items of furniture.

I'll be bringing along coffee tables, chairs, G Plan cabinets & 1960s lamps!  Something for everyone!

Oh, and I'll be bringing this lovely lady too....

Chicken soup and Leicester & London this weekend....

Even with all the driving last weekend, the fairs in Brighton & York were great.  We had hundreds of Brighton students through the door on Saturday and we were in the most beautiful venue on Sunday up in lovely York.

Unfortunately since then what with the weather and all the nasty colds going around I haven't ventured too far from the sofa... well only to stock up on chicken soup and tissues!

Oh to look so glam!

Well, I'm keeping my fingers crossed I'll have recovered by tomorrow as it's another double fair weekend.  Saturday we're in Leicester and Sunday we're in the east end of London.  Details below.  Hope to see you there!

The car is all loaded and ready for the 'Be Gorgeous' event at Luton casino tonight.  Hope to see you there; if the lure of free champagne and lots of shopping doesn't tempt you I don't know what will!

After tonight the next vintage event is this Saturday in lovely little Hertford.  The fair is in the Corn Exchange in the town centre and there are plently of places to 'do lunch' in the town before or after some vintage shopping.  Hopefully see you there.

Vintage photos

This was such a lovely find this morning!  I was rummaging around at Hitchin market earlier today and found a suitcase full of old photos which must have come out of a house clearance.  It's a little sad for probably once treasured family photos to end up at a market in amongst a lot of junk but I rescued a few and I think they are just lovely.  I'll just need to find somewhere to put them.

I find old photos fascinating.  It's just such a shame all our photos tend to live on our phones and computers nowadays....

New old records.

I'm still loving my new record player; in fact I'm thinking of redecorating and re organising my living room just so it fits in better!  I want to spend the winter sitting cosy on a lovely fluffy rug on the floor to play my new old records.  I've been rummaging through boxes of 49p records today to dig out some for my little collection.  Happy times!

Vintage record player

I've been thinking about getting a record player for a while now and spotted this lovely one at the weekend.  It's an early 60s Dansette Bermuda and it's just what every teenager had, or wanted around that time.  Whilst Mum & Dad would be downstairs watching telly, teenagers would be listening to the latest record in their bedroom.

I bought the record player and was given the choice of any record thrown in for free; I chose 'The Beach Boys'!  I'll soon be routing through the records at all the car boot sales to grow my collection!  I love the old crackly sound of records playing, it's so much more authentic.

My favourite designer: Mary Quant

Mary Quant sums up the late 1960s perfectly.  Famed with the invention of the mini skirt and 'go-go' boots, she made the decade what it was.  I absolutely love her designs although I'm not sure I'm brave enough to wear white vinyl boots!

I recently came across some amazing original 1970's Mary Quant shoes but much as I'd like to hang on to them forever just to look at I have just put them up on ebay so if you'd like to get your hands on a little piece of Quant history - here they are....

Guys and dolls!

I picked up these super cute dolls today.  They look a little like loo roll covers but they're musical dolls!  Twist the bottom and they each play a different tune.  The ultimate in kitcsh but I like them.

Vintage movies

If I were to describe my perfect cold weather afternoon it would be snuggled up on my lovely sofa with a cup of tea, biscuits and an old movie to watch.  I love love love afternoon films!  One of my favorites is 'Gone with the Wind' - I could watch it over and over!  But I wanted to mention a lovely film I watched the other day.. starring the just beautiful 'Virna Lisi' and very lovely 'Jack Lemmon' in 'How to Murder Your Wife'.  It's about a guy who loves the batchelor lifestyle then one day wakes up to find that after a drunken night at a batcheor party he is married to the girl who popped out of a cake the night before!  It's a perfect afternoon film.

Upcoming fair!

I love that vintage isn't considered just 'a London thing' anyone.  Hertfordshire now has some great vintage shops and The Hertfordshire Vintage Fairs.  I'll be at the next one which is in Berkhamsted on 12th September.  See you there!

The Fabulous Goodwood!

For those of you who got to go you'll know just how amazing it was.  Goodwood was just vintage heaven!

Although I enjoyed having a little part of the high street it did mean I didn't get to see and do all the amazing things on offer.  There was everything from the 70's Soul Casino, the 80's clubs, a roller disco, vintage hair & makeup, cocktails, champagne, music, girls strutting around in vintage bathing suits - it was just another world!

I think the highlight for me was the people watching.  Most people had really made an effort with their vintage outfit and it was an amazing site to see outfits from the 40's right up to the 80's.  50's and 60's dresses and amazing hair styles were in abundance but I think there was a real lack of 70s outfits... maybe next year.

My only disapointment for was not being able to wear high heels due to all the mud!  Let's hope for better weather next year!!
